Remembrance. As a young plant in an unknown land. Originating from the sun, planted in a cold land, where seasons come and go, the flower survived and blossomed.

IN BETWEEN TWO WORLDS

The present Dutch Moluccan community finds its origin in former KNIL - soldiers that were transferred from the Dutch Indies, the colonial name of Indonesia, after its independence. After coming over, the soldiers and their families were first housed in camps from where they were later relocated, with some delay, to dozens of neighbourhoods all over The Netherlands. This was not an easy process.

The impact of the Molaccans’ transfer to The Netherlands and the subsequent events left a scar. The memory of this is passed on from generation to generation and became embedded in the Dutch-Moluccan culture.

The flower translates the story of the first generation of the Moluccans being transferred overseas, as a young plant in an unknown land. Originating from the sun, planted in a cold land, where seasons come and go, the flower survived and blossomed.
